EUROZONE RETAIL SALES RISE IN APRIL

Eurozone retail volume recovered March lost ground in April. Total retail volume is up only 0.4% during the first 4 months of 2011 and 0.1% during the last 6 months. Ex-food, real sales rose 0.8% in April after losing 1.1% in March. YtD, ex-food sales are up 0.6%. Last 6 months: +0.1%.

In April 2011, compared with March 2011, the volume of retail trade rose by 0.9% in the euro area (EA17) and by 1.1% in the EU27. In March retail trade fell by 0.9% and 0.8% respectively. In April 2011, compared with April 2010, the retail sales index increased by 1.1% in the euro area and by 1.9% in the EU27.
